I got my first invite to grab a drink with some people today - they said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for a local to invite me for a drink. Sadly, I couldn't make it... :) They also decided I came all the way from Utah just to get on the boat tour, and then I had to head back home. Haha - they were quite funny.
The main one talking with me was a crew member of the ship - and was so surprised I hadn't seen a movie that was filmed in Scotland... unfortunately, I honestly have no idea if I've seen the film... but I rarely see movies and it didn't sound familiar. I could only understand about half of what people have been saying to me today... Like getting on the bus to get to the pier, then how to get there - and again when I met a nice older gentleman who directed me the rest of the way to the pier... Or the tour guide recording. It was a bit sad for me, really... I am sure I could have learned a lot more...
BUT I still learned a lot and had a wonderful day. Though, to be honest, this morning I was a bit stressed out because I couldn't figure out how to get there or which bus - and after missing church yesterday because I missed my bus, I was a little nervous today to be there in time to catch the boat. Obviously I made it, and God is truly very patient with my frantic worrying. :)
I am not sure what it is about being on the water, but I love it - and I feel at home there.
Oh, one really cool thing - I overheard a crew member telling other guests that he never gets cold. He says it is mostly psychological for him, and if he pays attention he can feel the warmth in the wind. It was really windy and I was starting to get cold, so I tried it. And, honestly, I was still a little cold - but - I did warm up. So, I was grateful I could hear that little tid-bit. :)
On to my pictures. I'm rather proud of these ones... I had a fun day. PS I have more, but I'll put them on FB instead - these are my favorites though.
We drove up right next to a whole lot of seals. The driver said that we were coming at high tide, so we didn't see as many as there are out and about at low tide. But this little guy, I swear, waved at me. Haha. :)
This lighthouse was built by Stevenson, the grandfather of the author of Treasure Island (I'm pretty sure...haha)
A lady on the boat with me told me these were built for the World Wars -
The bridge - specifically for railways
Hey look, it is me...
They are building a third bridge - I'm not sure how long it will take though
This is the largest aircraft carrier in Britain. HMS Queen Elizabeth. Not Queen Elizabeth the Second - because, the first Queen Elizabeth was not Queen of Scotland - so as the ship is being built here, they named it simply Queen Elizabeth.
I have been able to see bigger ones in the US, BUT it was still really cool. They are also building another one, called "The Prince of Wales" I believe. You can see it in the photo, it's in pieces - that have been painted kind of brick-red...
This is the one cars go over- it will mostly be retired to public transportation when the third bridge is finished
It was a beautiful day here in Scotland, on the Firth of Forth
